What Kind of Car Accidents Happen in Tucson?
While Tucson isn’t the most heavily populated city in Arizona, a lot of car accidents still happen here. In 2019, Tucson had a total of 6,179 crashes. Of these crashes, 77 were fatal, and 2,702 were injury crashes. 79 people were killed and 3,837 people were injured.
The Arizona Motor Vehicle Crash Facts for 2019 also tracked the amount and type of car accidents in the state. Our lawyers are familiar with these common types of car accidents and the damages they cause.
- Rear-End Collision. This type of collision has the most occurrences in Arizona at 47,936 accidents. These typically happen because of distracted drivers looking at their phones or another distraction that prevents them from looking out the windshield.
- Left-Turn Collision. There were 18,903 crashes for left-turn accidents. Intersections can be dangerous areas when a driver is turning left and doesn’t check to see if the lane is clear. When a car strikes another car turning left, it can turn into a broadside or T-bone collision.
- Head-On. While the number of incidents is lower, the fatalities are around the same level for rear-end and left turn collisions. Out of 1,954 accidents, there were 60 fatalities. These accidents result in fatalities and severe injuries because the front of both cars absorb the impact.
- Sideswipe. Traveling side by side going in the same direction had 18,106 accidents and going in different directions had 1,681 accidents.
- U-Turn. This maneuver resulted in 307 accidents in Arizona. When someone is making a U-turn, they may be turning in a spot where this isn’t legal or didn’t check that the lanes were clear of other traffic.
